How To Motivate Yourself To Lose Weight – Secrets You Never Knew!

If you ask 100 people the question of how to motivate yourself to lose weight, I’d bet a gallon of your favorite ice cream that you’ll get 100 different answers. Ok, I’m kidding on the ice cream thing because that’s not going to help you in your quest to take of some pounds so my apologies on that one. But I think you get my point. What works to motivate me, or you, is probably as different as night and day. That’s because you and I are two unique individuals with different wants and needs. But if you hang with me for just a bit, I’ll give you some ideas on motivation that hopefully will benefit you in your struggle to finally get a grip on things and start kicking some ass in your war against the battle of the bulge.

Now before we get any further, maybe you just can’t wait to get to the part about the “secrets you never knew”.  Ok, that’s fair. So let’s cover those first in case you are pressed for time. Ready?

The biggest secret there is, you could probably call it the big kahuna of secrets, (I really should have a drum roll here) is that there are NO secrets! Did I burst your bubble a tiny bit? Sorry, but here’s the down and dirty on how to motivate yourself to lose weight. It has to come from within. I can’t give it to you. A TV show can’t give it to you, Dr Oz can’t give it to you and neither can the endless publications that bombard you at every turn telling you what you need to do to stay motivated to lose weight.

Bottom line is that you either have the motivation inside of you, or you don’t. One of the biggest things I can share that helped me is that you have to KNOW why you want to lose weight. Now, go grab yourself a pen and some paper and write down all the reasons why. That’s right, ALL of them. Then make yourself some copies and put your list in as many places as humanly possible so that you see it on a daily basis. These now become your goals! If you noticed, I never mentioned anything about the number of pounds. Why? Well, to me, it’s irrelevant. If you write down I want to lose 50 pounds in 5 months, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll give up long before you even get close. But, if you wrote down “I want to look better naked”, that’s a goal that I’m sure you can relate to! Can you see the difference? Focus on the “why” first.

Now after you have all your why’s, you have a decision to make. And it’s a biggie. See, this losing weight stuff is all about changing your life. Uh huh. And for many of us, that isn’t the easiest thing to do. And I’m not picking on you, but you wouldn’t be here looking for information on how to motivate yourself to lose weight if it was easy! Sure, it’s a whole lot easier to keep the status quo and maybe every few months jump on the newest diet fad to hit the market only to be right back at square one a shortly thereafter. I should know, that describes me perfectly. But I finally made the choice to quit being fat! Permanently! Yeah, it’s not easy, but I look at my list of “why’s” every single day to keep me on track.

The next thing you have to do, is get started! The battle to lose weight is a long one and you have to understand that you’ll have a whole lot more success if you do it small increments. Like maybe talking a walk tomorrow instead of plopping down on the couch to watch some silly TV program.
